Absolutely - BMI is SO outdated! I can't believe that it was ever even used as a standard to measure fitness.

It would be awesome if the government (or better yet, a physical fitness agency) would come up with a standardized test that people could use to measure their level of fitness.

I guarantee that a lot of people with acceptable BMI numbers would still fail that test!

A really good artical and i ahve to agree with jim about the break down of the 8 component parts of fitness. so many people dont realise that there are many factors that effect if you are fit or not. Also with only recently leaving high school and playing linebacker i did my BMI and it told me i was obese even though i was very arobically fit and had a body fat percentage of 12% the BMI is outdated!

Nice work on this article, Steve! The breakdown of the 8 indicators of fitness are dead on. It is much better than the U.S. Government's body mass index scale. A professional football player would be considered obese even though they have a bodyfat percentage of 12%.

This message needs to get out more!
