This is a very unique exercise called a 1 Lat Push Up that can be added to any at home workout program in order to get better at push ups. Many people struggle with push ups, including our U.S. military members who have to be able to do push ups in order to pass the military PT test. This simple movement will help to improve your push ups, so add it into your present fitness program.

Also, remember that the idea behind getting RESULTS is to keep your body guessing about what it is that you are up to. If you always do the same things in the same ways, then you will hit a plateau. Movements like 1 Lat Push Ups are a great way to change things up and keep the results coming!

The 1 Lat Push Up is one of the featured home exercises in the extreme fitness program Insanity: The Asylum!свети георги

Many people struggle with how to get better at pull ups, since that particular exercise tends to be very challenging. There are simple methods that will help you get better at pull ups and chin ups, however, and this video shows you two resistance band exercises that will help you do exactly that.

Don’t let the fact that you can’t do very many (or any) pull ups right now stop you from changing that fact. It’s a step-wise process just like any other, and if you follow the steps, you’ll get the strength results, as well as the aesthetic results of more sculpted arms, shoulders, and back!

Push ups and pull ups are two of the most effective upper body exercises that you can do, and there are enough variations of each for both seasoned athletes as well as beginners to see GREAT results from these movements. Each of these short videos covers the key points that you need to know in order to maximize your results in the shortest time possible!

Everything You Need to Know about Push Ups

Tony Horton on How to do Push Ups

In this video, Tony Horton (of P90X fame) covers how to do push ups, common problems like chin tuck/butt rise/back sway, how to do modified push ups, and how to do push ups with a partial range of motion.

Tony Horton and Advanced Push Ups

Some advanced movements in this video, including Decline Push Ups with your feet up on a chair, increased range of motion, and how to make push ups easier on the wrists by using power stands.

Also included are how to do Diamond Push Ups, how to work your Triceps (back of the arm), and how to do Dive Bomber Push Ups.

Shaun T on How to do Push Ups

In this video, Shaun T does a great job of showing you how to work different parts of your body by holding your elbows in different positions to work your Triceps or your chest muscles more.

Shaun T on How to do Squat Push Ups

The Squat Push Ups are one of the incredible exercises in the Insanity 60-Day Total Body Conditioning program. In this video, Shaun shows us how to do squat push ups in order to work the core, the quadriceps (top of the leg), and the Triceps at the same time.

Everything You Need to Know about Pull Ups

Tony Horton and Chair Assisted Pull Ups

There is a lot of great content in this video, even though it is still pretty short. Tony Horton covers all of the following:

Stage 1: Using a chair to do pull ups and how to get better at pull ups
Stage 2: Using a short range of motion when not using a chair in order to get stronger
Stage 3: Using a full range of motion, doing L-Pull ups, and using no “body English” in order to get the most out of your pull ups

Tony Horton on How to do Pull Ups

In this second video on how to do pull ups, Tony covers how to use bands to do pull ups, the proper way to pull exercise bands when doing pull ups, and how to do the “isometric hold” that helps you get the most results from doing pull ups.

NEXT STEPS

As you can see from these videos, it’s really not that difficult to use push ups and pull ups to help you get the health, fitness, and weight loss results that you are looking for.

The common theme that you saw in these videos was to modify the movements as needed for whatever YOUR level of fitness is. It’s not about being perfect at push ups or pull ups from the beginning. It’s about doing the best that YOU can do, and that is where the results come from!

There are a lot of people that think they can’t do P90X because they either don’t have a pull up bar, or don’t have a place in their home where they can put one. This video describes 2 different ways that you can still do P90X, even without the pull up bar.

As with all P90X workouts, there are ways to modify the exercises so that you can still get the results, even if the circumstances of your life aren’t “ideal”. Find ways to BRING IT, and watch the RESULTS happen!

If you’re willing to take on the P90X challenge (and get the best results of your life!), then grab your copy of P90X so Shanna and Aaron can Coach you to success!

The P90X Chest, Triceps, and Shoulders workout is SUCH an awesome routine for sculpting the Triceps muscles at the back of the arm. This video shows you how to PROPERLY do Tricep Extensions in order to maximize the benefit, and get the arms that you want!

Don’t forget – when you are doing your weighted exercises, you need to stick to the 8-10 or 12-15 repetition range. If you want bigger muscles, stay in the 8-10 range, while the 12-15 range will give you leaner muscles with more endurance. Either way, though, the last 2 or 3 repetitions should be VERY challenging.

This movement is a great upper body exercise, it doubles as a core exercise, and it also increases your neuro-muscular coordination, which in turn improves your balance and agility, while also keeping your brain sharp.

As with all push up movements, try to go down as far as you can, getting your upper arms parallel to the ground or lower.

In this edition of FitnessDTV, our Effective Exercise is the Incline Push up. Incline Push ups are a GREAT way to work your chest muscles from a different angle than they are accustomed to.

This particular type of push up is one of the many push up varieties that are included in the P90X 90-Day Extreme Home Fitness Program. The P90X program is based on the concept of “muscle confusion” which is exactly what you are doing with an Incline Push up – forcing your muscles to do something that they aren’t used to doing, which equals growth.

Level 1 Drills are a multi-stage movement that include upper body work, core work, and cardiovascular conditioning. As always, proper form is key to getting the most out of the movement. Even if you are really tired – and you WILL be during Insanity – do your best to get the most out of the movement by keeping your form as much as possible.

Dips are a classic upper body exercise that people have been doing for years, and there is a reason why. Dips get the job done, they are a body weight only exercise, and they help to sculpt firm, sexy arms for men and women alike.

Dips primarily work the Triceps muscles that are on the back of the arm, and they also work the shoulder muscles. Dips can be done as part of a body weight only exercise program, or they can be incorporated into a program that uses weights, exercise bands, or other exercise equipment.

The proper way to do a dip is to put your hands on something sturdy such as a chair, a bench, or even a windowsill or the side of a desk. As long as the object is flat and won’t move, it will work fine.

Keep your back as close to the chair or other object as you can, because otherwise you will put undue strain on your shoulders, and you will lose some of the benefit to the Triceps muscles.

Drop down until your upper arms are parallel to the ground, and then go all the way back up until your arms are completely straight. To keep constant tension on the muscles – which helps you to get faster results – don’t lock your elbows at the top of the movement.

Three popular dip variations, in order of difficulty, are:

Knees bent with legs closer to the chair

Legs fully extended

Legs fully extended with one leg raised in the air.

No matter how you do your dips, use good form, maintain full control on the way up and on the way down, and mentally focus on the muscles as you do your repetitions.

Dips are an integral part of the P90X Extreme Home Fitness Program as well as the Insanity 60-Day Total Body Conditioning Program.

The Table Dip Raise is another excellent upper body exercise that can be done without any exercise equipment of any kind. This body weight exercise very effectively works the Triceps muscle group at the back of the arm.

The table dip raise is done by starting from a seated position with the feet flat on the floor, and the hands on the floor on either side of the body, fingers pointed forward.

To begin, raise the hips off of the floor and raise one leg into the air as high as possible. Unhinge the elbows and drop the hips all the way to the floor, but without actually touching the floor. Raise back up until the arms are fully straight, and repeat.

Perform 5 repetitions per leg before switching to the other leg. Continue to alternate 5 repetitions per leg for as many total repetitions as you can do.
