Lyman,

Glad to provide an opportunity for you to rant! :)

That's the thing that really gets me, too. Everyone wants to BLAME SOMEONE for their issues. If someone wants to have a lifestyle that isn't 100% healthy, that is certainly their business. However, to go around blaming anyone except for the person in the mirror is nothing less than a cowardly act of irresponsibility.

Wow, that was pretty harsh... ;)

It's amazing... I was at work yesterday and an article on this very subject was sitting on the break room table. I couldn't believe it! There was just so much wrong with it I had a hard time reading.

Just to be fair, I've never had a problem with weight myself. But if I think about all that's gone into "changing society" when it comes to smoking, and considering the fact that I just had a Marlboro... I suppose they just haven't changed it enough for me when it comes to that one! It's all society's fault! Please oh please Mr. Government, take care of me!

Oops, sorry, went a little off the deep end with the sarcasm there... but it does fire me up when I know that there are those of us out here working on changing themselves, while there are others who seem to put more work into blaming others.

Ok, I feel better now. :)

Craig,

What's ironic about your quote is that even though saying things like that would very likely hurt someone's feelings, those are the same people whose hurt feelings would cause them to wake up and smell the coffee!

Tip-toeing around preventable conditions like obesity just creates more of the same. Call something like it is and people won't feel like they have a shield that they can hide behind anymore!

Of course it's your fault your fat!
The sooner we call fat what it is (as opposed to deluding ourselves by calling each other full-figured, big-boned and heavy-set) the sooner we will get serious about addressing obesity in a real, practical, no bullshit way. Perhaps we should worry less about political correctness and more about heart disease, diabetes, bowel cancer and the plethora of other obesity-related conditions.

"Whatever you do.. don't mention the 'F' word.. you might hurt her feelings; she's not fat, she's... voluptuous!".
