As the seemingly never-ending quest for "the next big thing" in the diet and weight loss industry continues, the new Volumetrics Eating Plan has burst onto the scene, and for once, a diet plan makes some sense!
Over several years of working one on one with personal training clients, there was a non-stop need to debunk the media hype surrounding new diet plans, as most diets are more full of hype than they are full of effective weight loss information.

The Volumetrics Eating Plan has some actual meat to it, however (no pun intended), so I have decided to discuss what it is all about and whether or not it is worth your time.
In a nutshell, the Volumetrics Eating Plan is made up of consuming foods that are low in energy density (a.ka. - low in calories), yet high in nutrients. This has the effect of filling you up since you can consume larger quantities of low density foods, yet also giving you a powerful punch of healthy vitamins and minerals in the process.
The low energy density of the Volumetrics diet foods is due in large part to the fact that many of the recommended foods from the Volumetrics recipes have a very high concentration of water - such as {GASP!} fruits and vegetables.
Anyone who has ever been on a diet before knows that by consuming large quantities of water, you will tend to fill up faster. However, on that same note, if you just fill up on water, then you will quickly become hungry again, as the water is rapidly processed by your body.
Many of the Volumetrics diet foods offset that effect since they are high in vitamins, minerals, water, and often times fiber as well. Fiber is not only very healthy, but it also helps you to feel very full when you eat.
What type of foods can you expect to eat while using the Volumetrics Eating Plan? Well, the book itself has 125 separate recipes for you to choose from, giving you plenty of choices. However, pictures sometimes speak louder than words, so I borrowed these photos from the Volumetrics website in order to give you an idea of what to expect:

As you can see from these pictures, the Volumetrics diet foods are all significantly higher in quantity than their less healthy alternatives. In addition, not only are you getting more food, but you are getting massive doses of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants by eating fruits and vegetables.
Conclusion
Is the Volumetrics Eating Plan "the next big thing"? Actually, in an ironic twist of fate, eating the Volumetrics diet foods is actually the next old thing!

We have been being told for years to eat our fruits and vegetables, and to stay away from sugar and fat. This is nothing new. However, what is new about this system is the Volumetrics recipes themselves.
It is one thing to tell someone to eat more fruits and vegetables, while it is something else entirely to back that up by saying, "Here are some tasty recipes that will show you how to do that without sacrificing flavor".
What about exercise? Does a plan like this mean that I don't have to exercise? Ummm…NO!
Exercise is not just about weight loss - contrary to popular belief. In addition, the Volumetrics Eating Plan is only covering one aspect of weight loss - the eating part.
If you can eliminate 500 - 1,000 calories from your diet each day by following the Volumetrics recipes, imagine how quickly you will lose weight when you burn an additional 500 calories per day by exercising?
A pound or two a week of bodyfat loss is well within your limits by adding together the power of a healthy eating plan with the power of a good exercise program.
Not very impressed by only losing a pound or two a week? Then consider this:
If you lose 2 pounds per week, you will have lost 104 pounds in a year!
I don't know about you, but I've known some seriously obese people who would (and could) jump for joy over tossing away 104 pounds of bodyfat…
